The day tour begins early in the morning, about 9 AM. You get picked up from the hotel by the guide that will be with you during the whole trip and driven to the harbour were a boat is waiting for you. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach the sandbank which is situated in the middle of the ocean. This sandbank/ island is true paradise for everyone who loves swimming, sunbading and snorkeling with its colourful fish and bright blue turquoise sea around the island.

You will have lunch/ light snack at the sandbank and stay there for a couple of hours before you depart for Toten Island, situated just off the Tanga Harbour. (You can though choose if you want to go to Toten Island or stay longer at The Sandbank island).

Toten island contains a mosque, tombs and cemetery. There is evidence that there was earlier settlement on the island.

On the Northern and Western side there were found potsherds dated back to the15th, late 18th and early 19th centuries. There are also ruins of a house and several German graves from the colonial times on the island.

If you are lucky you may see dolphins swimming around in the water on the way to the sandbank.

Highlights:

Bring high sunscreen and a hat to protect you from the sun as the sun is incredibly strong here. It is also wise to bring sunglasses and lots of water on this trip.

The Pangani River originates at the feet of Mount Kilimanjaro and meanders the landscape, fringed with mangroves and coconut plantations to Pangani Town. The cruise takes about 3 hours and begins at the mouth of the river Pangani where fishermen reel in their day’s catch, then heads up the river along with a stunning scenery of never-ending coconut plantations & mangroves. The mangroves are rich in birdlife and you can see Pied Kingfisher hiding in the branches of trees, Colobus monkeys looking for a shady area, and with a bit of luck some crocodile or even hippos might come up to the surface.

We will make sure there is some shade on the boat and arrange a cool box of cold drinks for you. The cruise will conclude with a lovely sunset over the river and sipping freshly picked coconut juice enjoying a romantic sundowner on the River.
